Well, this is a change - I've read a book about a bear that wasn't written by Karma Wilson! What a strange world we live in...
Whilst all the other animals make preparations for a party, the bear sleeps soundly in a log nearby. When he is accidentally woken by Hare, will he really be as scary as the animals all fear?
I'm sure you can guess at the answer, but really this is a well-told story. In fact, when it comes to the actual rhythm of the piece, and the way the lines rhyme together, it must be one of the best I've read. It's very nicely illustrated, and I'm sure children will enjoy joining in the animals' worry about how the bear will react when he wakes.
No, it's not quite as good as any of the books in Karma Wilson's Bear series, but it's very good nonetheless, especially the language and the way it all fits together.
